Darnell Nurse was suspended after starting the fight late in the Oilers’ win
Darnell Nurse receives a one-game ban after starting a brawl late in the Oilers’ win over the Golden Knights.
Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse has been suspended for a game for initiating a brawl in the final minute of Edmonton’s 4-1 win over Vegas on Wednesday night.
At the end of the competition, it was a head-to-head race full of penalties and skirmishes.
Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo suffered a major and game misconduct with less than 90 seconds left. After Leon Draisaitl fired wide of the empty goal, Pietrangelo smacked the Oilers forward over the arms. Connor McDavid then looked for retaliation after a corner from Pietrangelo.
Pietrangelo also has a hearing with the Player Safety Department on Thursday.
Vegas’ Chandler Stephenson and Jonathan Marchessault were ruled in misconduct, as were Edmonton’s Kailer Yamamoto and Evander Kane earlier in the period.
The Golden Knights’ Nicolas Hague was also sent off over a dispute with Nurse, who received an instigator penalty and misconduct.
Las Vegas’ Brett Howden also received a misconduct with 25 seconds remaining.
Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft was automatically fined $10,000 as a result of Nurse’s suspension.
