Ron DeSantis received his first endorsement from a fellow governor during his trip to Oklahoma on Saturday.

Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt praised DeSantis for his response to COVID-19 when the 2024 candidate held a campaign rally in Oklahoma.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump was in North Carolina on Saturday night, unleashing even more attacks on his Republican primary rival No. 1 and admitting he hadn’t been “very nice” to the Florida governor.

“Governor DeSantis is a strong conservative and principled leader, and I am proud to support him as president,” Governor Stitt said Saturday outside the venue for his state’s DeSantis rally.

“As a fellow governor during the COVID-19 crisis, DeSantis has not ceded states’ rights and individual freedoms to groupthink,” he added. “Throughout this election cycle, Oklahomans will remember that DeSantis was one of the few who never backed down in the face of adversity because DeSantis acted with stubborn conviction and shared our values for limited government and a free country.”

Florida’s governor has received five votes in the House of Representatives: Texas Rep. Chip Roy; Thomas Massie of Kentucky; Laurel Lee from Florida; Bob Good of Virginia; and Rich McCormick of Georgia.

No senator has yet expressed support for DeSantis in the upper chamber of Congress.

Trump, by far the lead candidate for 2024, has so far garnered much more support from politicians and lawmakers.

The former president has repeatedly slammed DeSantis, attacking him for “disloyalty” for running against him after Trump’s endorsement catapulted him to the governor’s mansion in Florida in 2018.

Trump said he has a hard time saying “DeSantis” because he’s used alternative nicknames for him for so long — like “DeSanctis” and “DeSanctimonious.”

In a moment when Trump “wanted to be serious” in a recent interview, he admitted to the North Carolina crowd that he had mistakenly said “DeSanctis.”
