The outing comes after Olivia recently revealed she could have been an Olympic track star if she hadn’t been over-trained as a teenager – which sparked a heart problem.

The reality favorite is taking part in new ITV series The Games and returning to a sporting environment has brought back painful memories of her earlier athletics days.

She admitted to collapsing in training after speaking to one of the show’s coaches about her unfulfilled potential, which left her feeling “heartbroken”.

Olivia said: “My history with running is a bit sad. I used to run at the national and district levels – it’s weird because some of the coaches here know some of my old coaches.

“I reached a high level and was one of those unfortunate cases of young athletes who got overtrained.

“I overtrained to the point where I was emaciated and ended up with a swollen heart valve from running six days a week.

“We ran a long time and I had chest pains, I had a big competition coming up and I went to the doctor and he said the chest pains were an enlarged valve from the amount of training and I never have again set foot on the track again.

“You have to live sedentary for six months to recover and then you can go back in, but I was heartbroken, at that age, folks, PB (personal best), every single weekend, there was no way that after six ever get back to that level in months.”

Olivia, who appeared on the Love Island series in 2017 when she teamed up with Chris Hughes, 29, says The Games has acted as a “healing process” for her previous “trauma”.

And she admitted that 15 years away from the race track – as well as ‘drinking and smoking’ – has “taken its toll” as she hasn’t come close to reaching the level she was at.

Olivia explained: “To be a part of that and to come back into a sporting environment was crazy.

“One night I was talking to one of the coaches and just burst into tears. It’s a bit of trauma and memories I had repressed that I didn’t even know I had.

“When I stepped onto the track and smelled the rubber, I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is so weird.’

“It was a lot harder than I thought, but also – it sounds really millennial – but healing. Fifteen years of partying and smoking has taken its toll.’

Olivia will take on Spice Girl Mel B’s daughter Phoenix Brown, model Christine McGuinness, Emmerdale’s Rebecca Starker, singer Chelcee Grimes and newsreader Lucrezia Millarini in The Games, which airs on ITV this month.

  • The games begin Monday 9 May at 9pm on ITV
