Olivia Newton-John’s niece Tottie Goldsmith reveals the 73-year-old actress has suffered in her final days

Totti Goldsmith broke down in tears in an interview with A Current Affair on Tuesday while discussing her aunt Olivia Newton-John’s final days.

The legendary Grease star died peacefully Monday at the age of 73 at her home in Southern California surrounded by family and friends.

Totti, 59, revealed Olivia’s health had deteriorated in the week before her death and she was “really thin and unwell” but was brave to the end.

“It’s not a shock, we know how ill she’s been, especially for the past five days,” Totti told host Tracy Grimshaw of Olivia’s death.

Totti then revealed her heartbreaking final moments with Olivia.

“I couldn’t get to America in time and wanted to say goodbye, so I asked [her husband John] if he could put the phone to her ear…’ Totti went on.

“But he put me on FaceTime so I managed to see her.”

“I told her everything I had to say,” she said. “She left us…but I could feel like she understood.”

“She’s dealing with a lot of pain and it’s been a tough road,” Totti said.

“It wasn’t just the cancer that got her. It was other complications and being in a hospital with a very vulnerable immune system.

At the end of the interview, Totti said her family would accept Victorian Prime Minister Daniel Andrews’ offer of a state funeral to celebrate Olivia’s extraordinary life and legacy.

Tottie is best known for her role in the pop group Chantoozies, which thrived in the late 1980s and early 1990s with their songs “Witch Queen,” “He’s Gonna Step On You Again,” “Wanna Be Up,” and “Love the One You.” ‘re With” had hits.

Just two years before her death, she spoke candidly about her outlook on life at the G’Day USA benefit in Beverly Hills alongside her former co-star John Travolta.

“Gosh, life is a gift and I’ve had an amazing life and I intend to continue with that and I obviously want to help other people with cancer,” she told in the January 2020 interview.

“I have my spa in Melbourne and I want cancer to end while I’m alive so other people don’t have to suffer.”

Newton-John was first diagnosed with the disease in 1992, but announced that she beat cancer in 2013, the year after her spa opened.

But in May 2017, she was told that cancer had metastasized and spread to her bones.

Reflecting on her battle with the disease, she admitted, “I don’t see it as a fight. I don’t think about it much to be honest.

“Denial is a really good thing and I’m getting stronger and better all the time! I’m doing well! … I feel wonderful.’

She also admitted that she had hope for her future.

“I’m winning and I’m fine with it and that’s how I see it,” she added.

Newton-John also reflected on her delight that Grease is still being remembered more than four decades after its release.

She confessed: “We did something very special together. This film is still loved.’

She recalled how caring Travolta was while filming the musical romance.

When asked about her favorite memory from the set, she said: “His kindness to me. When there was a scene in the film – it was my close-up when Rizzo pulled me forward in the campfire scene – and in the middle of my take he stopped her and came over to me and whispered in my ear, “I think you can You better.”

Newton-John famously rebelled against the role of Sandy in the 1978 film Grease. She was 28 at the time and thought she was too old to play a freshman high school girl

“That’s really generous. That an actor does that for another actor. I wasn’t as experienced as him. He was very caring and sweet.’

During the same event, Travolta, a lifelong friend and Grease co-star, praised her positive outlook on life despite her health concerns.

He said: “Olivia is a survivor and she’s smart and she has a lot of life in her and I think she always sees it through half a glass and that’s her beautiful, natural approach to life and I think we all have to.” it do that.’

Olivia’s husband John Easterling announced the tragic news that his wife had lost their battle.

“Dame Olivia Newton-John passed away peacefully this morning at her Southern California ranch surrounded by family and friends,” he said in a statement.

“We ask everyone to respect the privacy of the family at this very difficult time.

“A symbol of triumph and hope for over 30 years, Olivia shares her journey with breast cancer.

“Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicines continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund dedicated to research into plant medicines and cancer.”
