Olivia Rodrigo falls, breaking one of her awards

Talk about deja vu.

Olivia Rodrigo tried to balance her three Grammys backstage at Sunday night’s awards show, only to drop and break one, just like her idol Taylor Swift had done 12 years earlier.

After the trophy fell to the ground and broke in two, the 19-year-old stood there, her other two gramophones in hand, with a shocked expression on her face.

A photographer tried to reassure Rodrigo by saying: “That’s fine” before jokingly adding in a video: “We’ll just write it on your bill”. tweeted by Variety.

Luckily, an assistant came to the rescue and temporarily put the trophy back together so the “Good 4 U” singer could share the photos with her awards for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album (“Sour”) and Best Pop -Solo performance (“driver’s license”).

The exact same thing happened to Swift at the 2010 Grammys when the then 20-year-old superstar accidentally dropped one of her four awards backstage and broke it, needing help putting it back together.

Rodrigo has long credited Swift, now 32, as one of the biggest influences on her music career. The two finally connected after the ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ star’s meteoric rise last year, when Rodrigo told Billboard that the ‘All Too Well’ singer had texted her to say hello to congratulate their success.

“I don’t want to give too much away because it’s really sweet and personal, but she talks a lot about how, I think, you make your own happiness in the world,” the teen told the magazine in May 2021. “And when, if.” if you do good things to others, good things will happen to you.”

That same month, Rodrigo and Swift met in person at the 2021 Brit Awards and posed for a fun Instagram selfie.

Sunday’s awards ceremony marked the actress’ first appearance at the Grammys. Not only did she take home three trophies, but she performed the song “Drivers License” that started it all.
