Quebec native Olivier Bibeau has already seen his songs used by renowned brands from Disney to Pepsi, including Biotherm, Audi and even NASA. But starting this week, it’s on the popular series Love is blindon Netflix that we can listen to one of his compositions.
The public here already knows Olivier Bibeau from his years spent in the popular – and now defunct – rock group Final State. But since the group’s dissolution, the Quebec artist has now been working in the shadows; an important contrast to the career he led on stage for a long time.
“It’s very different. But actually it was ‘Final State’ that made me fall in love with studio work. That’s what I liked the most,” he testifies.
The 31-year-old artist is therefore enjoying this new reality to the fullest.
“Obviously the adrenaline of being on a stage and receiving the energy of thousands of people is difficult to replicate anywhere else. But I’m happiest when I’m in my studio. It gives me great freedom to work with different styles of music,” he continues.
In fact, the sounds he creates now can range from rock to electronic, including folk, pop or hip-hop. These could also be heard in equally different contexts: from the Olympic Games in Beijing to the Super Bowl, but also in films (Senior Year) and several television series (Grown-ish, Welcome to Eden).
Lionel Messi’s training
And sometimes Olivier Bibeau’s melodies are used in even more surprising situations. An example ? Argentine star soccer player Lionel Messi recently added the Quebecer’s music to a training video he shared with his approximately 487 million subscribers on the Instagram platform. Unexpected visibility that quickly bore fruit.
“I didn’t know! I learned it when I saw my inboxes filling up on my social networks. My name appeared in the post so people could find me easier. Let’s just say it was a nice surprise, which made my listening numbers on the platforms skyrocket,” he explains with a laugh.
Love is blind
This time, Netflix has chosen its title Better Together for the highly anticipated new season of Love Is Blind, set to premiere this Friday. In its four previous editions, the platform’s flagship reality show has set new viewership records and has also been praised on social media by Kim Kardashian, Lizzo, Billie Eilish and Daniel Radcliff.
His concept: There are 30 singles who have to woo the opposite sex through gentle meetings in well-closed individual cabins. No contact, not even a look, just to foster intellectual rather than physical affinities. To move on to the next step, getting to know each other in the flesh, they have about ten days to find a soul mate who will accept their marriage proposal.

In a key scene we can hear Olivier Bibeau’s play while the fiancés arrive at a luxurious hotel complex and get to know each other better under the coconut palms. This step will of course create sparks… and not always positive ones.
“I know it is one of the most popular reality shows in the United States, so I know it will reach a lot of people. It’s great visibility for an artist,” he says.
The fifth season of Love is Blind premieres on Netflix on Friday.
