1932 – UMBERTO ECO. The Italian semiologist, philosopher and writer Umberto Eco, author of the novel “The Name of the Rose” (1980), on which the French filmmaker's film of the same name (1986) was based, was born in the city of Alessandria (Piedmont, Italy). Eco was born on January 5, 1932 in Alessandria in the Piedmont region (north) and studied philosophy at the University of Turin, where he received his doctorate in 1956 with the dissertation “Il problema esthetics in San Tommaso”.

From 1962 to 1965 he was Associate Professor of Aesthetics at the Universities of Turin and Milan and continued teaching in other universities of his country such as Bologna, where he was Professor of Semiotics and Philosophy and Director of the Institute of Communication and the Show.

A researcher of the complicated processes of communication and an inspirer of models of interpretation of the literary work, his first semiotic work was La structura assente (The Absent Structure), which he published in 1968 and which was included in the Trattado di semiotica generale (Treatise on General Semiotics) in 1975.

After the great reception from The name of the Rose published in 1988 Foucault's pendulum which became one of the best-selling books of the year despite not being well received by critics.

He later published The island from the day before (1994), where he ponders the passage of time, the dictates of history, and the complexities of human fate through the vicissitudes of an isolated 17th-century young castaway; Baudolinotakes place in the 12th century with the capture of Byzantium by Christian crusaders in the background and in 2004 Queen Loana's mysterious flame.

His last novels were Prague cemetery (2010), in which he recounts the creation of the apocryphal Protocols of Zion and Number zerowhich was published in 2015, a work in which he speaks ironically about manipulation in the media and the limits of information.

As Senator for Santa Fe, he denounced corruption and monopoly in the beef trade with the United Kingdom.

1965 – ELEONORA CASSANO. The dancer Eleonora Cassano, one of the founders of Argentine ballet and stable partner of Julio Bocca, with whom she began working at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, was born in the Boedo district of Buenos Aires.

1969 – MARILYN MANSON. American composer, singer, actor and filmmaker Marilyn Manson (Brian Hugh Warner) was born in the city of Canton (Ohio, USA) and gained popularity in the 1990s due to his controversial personality and image. He formed his stage name by combining that of actress Marilyn Monroe and that of criminal Charles Manson.

1973 – BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. The American rock singer and songwriter Bruce Springsteen releases his first studio album, “Greetings from Asbury Park”, with which he gave the impetus to his successful career with the support of the band E Street Band.

1973 – AEROSMITH. The American rock band Aerosmith releases their debut album in the USA under the name of the group founded in Boston, which contains the successful songs “Dream on” and “Walking the dog”.

1976 – HUGO GATTI. Unión de Santa Fe transfers its goalkeeper Hugo Orlando Gatti to Boca Juniors for 600,000 pesos. “Loco” Gatti, who played for River Plate, was an idol for twelve years and the owner of the “Xeneize” goal.

1998 – GAS ANCHOR. Channel 13 broadcasts the first episode of the popular soap opera Gasoleros, starring Juan Leyrado and Mercedes Morán, supported by Nicolás Cabré, Malena Solda, Matías Santoiani, Alejandro Fiore, Cecilia Milone and Pablo Rago. The one-season flick featured special appearances from Dady Brieva, China Zorrilla, Rubén Rada and Flavio Posca, among others.
