The coming winter remains very tentative in many parts of the state. At least that’s what the GeoSphere Austria weather models for Upper Austria show. However, it is slowly cooling down, at least a little, even though it generally remains too hot for this time of year.
Today, Monday, the week begins with variable but reasonably friendly cloudiness. “Beyond the Mühlviertel, there may be a few hours of sunshine,” says meteorologist Maximilian Störz from GeoSphere Austria, “but it will be a lottery with cloud cover.” It will also be relatively warm, with daily maximum temperatures of eight to 14 degrees.
This should change from Tuesday. With the influence of low pressure from a westerly Atlantic current, a cloudy and rainy day is approaching. With maximum temperatures of five to nine degrees it also gets cooler; At night it can snow up to 800 meters in the Mühlviertel.
The wind drives away the fog
It will be a little cooler with maximum temperatures of zero to five degrees mid-week. With the slight cold coming from the north, it could snow in large areas up to the valleys for the first time this season. However, you shouldn’t expect too much from this, says Störz: “A little more snow is possible along the Alps, but otherwise it will just be covered in sugar.”
However, temperatures will remain low overall, between minus four and zero degrees overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
The weather will be much more stable on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures rise to seven to nine degrees. “It will be quite dry autumn days,” says Störz, “but heavy, heavy fog is also possible on Thursday.” Therefore, it is very vague if and for how long the sun will appear.
Significantly stronger winds, blowing from the west at up to 70 km/h, will put an end to the heavy fog on Friday and the sun will appear again. From today’s perspective, a little more rain is expected for the weekend itself, but weather models are still subject to a certain degree of uncertainty.
