A 48-year-old man died this Wednesday in the fire that broke out at half past eleven in a house on Antonio Mairena street (Palomeras Sureste neighborhood, in the Puente de Vallecas district, in the south of the capital), and about 35 others suffered cardiovascular injuries -Standstill from which they recovered thanks to the intervention of Samur. Firefighters rescued the two victims from the home where the flames were centered and moved them to a safe location in the ground floor lobby where they were treated by the Samur. The two were in cardiac arrest due to smoke inhalation. Health workers recovered one of them and confirmed the death of the second after performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers for 45 minutes. The survivor, aged about 35, was transferred in serious condition to La Paz Hospital in Madrid, where he remains hospitalized in the burns ward.
Five other elderly people were treated for anxiety by a Samur psychologist at the scene of the accident. A sixth, a woman, due to very mild smoke inhalation. Both the local Madrid police, who are investigating the causes of the fire, and the national police worked with firefighters to corral the neighbors.
