Firefighters received a call about flames at 73 Rue Kennedy Nord around 9:45 p.m., explains Martin Primeau, director and civil safety coordinator for the Sherbrooke Fire Protection Service.
“When the fire department arrived there was a lot of flames and smoke. They conducted a temporary attack to extinguish the flames. They returned and unfortunately found one person unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene as there were signs of obvious death. »
However, the exact cause of death has not yet been determined. The investigation was transferred to the Sherbrooke Police Department (SPS) to determine the circumstances of the fire, which required the deployment of approximately 25 firefighters.
The flames were brought under control around midnight.
“It was a good fire, we may have difficulty finding the cause. At the moment there are not many details,” specifies Mr. Primeau.
No one else was hurt, he claims.
The SPS stated that the police guarded the scene of the fire throughout the night to support the medical examiner and to determine the exact causes and circumstances of the incident.
“Investigators, a forensic identification technician, assisted by the fire inspector, will be deployed to the scene throughout Saturday to advance the investigation,” a press release said Saturday morning.
