Among the eighteen titles that will go Netflix Tuesday, October 31st, will be presented Hook or Captain Hook’s Revenge. Far from the Disney universe, Steven Spielberg’s film tells the story of Peter Pan, who settled in the USA under the name Peter Banning. He married Moira, Wendy’s granddaughter, with whom he has two children, Jack and Maggie. Now that he’s grown up, he no longer has the slightest memory of Neverland. But the past will come back to haunt him in the form of Captain Hook. The fearsome pirate, believed to have died when Peter left Neverland, reappears and kidnaps his children in revenge. In desperation, the hero then receives a visit from his old friend Tinkerbell, who takes him to Neverland to face his archenemy.

Hook: A film that skyrocketed with critics

In contrast to Steven Spielberg’s previous features Hook or Captain Hook’s Revenge did not receive good reviews when it was released in theaters. “No effort is made to incorporate Peter’s magic into the real world in which he now lives, and little attention has been paid to Captain Hook’s extraordinary persistence in revisiting events of the past. Hook’s failure lies in his inability to reinterpret the original book “I find something new and fresh in the myth of Peter Pan,” wrote the Chicago Sun-Times at the time, while Rolling magazine Stone agreed Feature film “would only appeal to the baby boomer generation”. Although the film received mixed reviews upon its release, it was a success with audiences and grossed over $300 million at the box office.

Julia Roberts, Tinkerbell, was nicknamed the “Fairy from Hell” on the set of Hook.

While “Hook – The Revenge of Captain Hook” was a box office success in the early 1990s, filming it was unfortunately not a walk in the park for Steven Spielberg. The reason ? Julia Roberts. The actress, who was nicknamed “Hell’s Fairy” after her character Tinker Bell, had many moods on set. It must be said that George Clooney’s best friend had just broken up with her fiancé, actor Kiefer Sutherland. Far from being angry, Steven Spielberg admitted in an interview with 60 Minutes that “it wasn’t necessarily the best time to work with Julia.” Julia Roberts, for her part, had denied allegations that she was obnoxious on set. “I think that Steven Spielberg doesn’t have a very good memory of his memories of me. “I never opened up about my private life on set (…) He doesn’t seem as friendly as I remember,” she revealed.
