In “The Shield,” Inspector Vic Mackey, played by Michael Chiklis – who finally got back on his feet in 2014's “Gotham” – was the main character, but also willingly gave way to the other members of his team. We found in particular Inspector Shane Vendrell, played by Walton Goggins (Justified), Inspector Curtis Lemansky, played by Kenneth Allen Johnson (SWAT) or Inspector Ronnie Gardocki – David Rees Snell, also appearing again in SWAT. What made The Shield successful was its grounding in reality. The events of the series are actually based on the excesses of an existing brigade in Los Angeles in the 1990s. A major corruption scandal then rocked one of the California city's anti-gang departments. Some of the agents had even staged bank robberies, cocaine thefts and even shootouts to enrich themselves.
