“One of the most beautiful paths in Estrie” has got a new face – La Tribune

Locals and visitors now have access to a more user-friendly and safer route than before, says Eastman Mayor Nathalie Lemaire.

“It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful trails in Estrie with unique views of Lac d’Argent and Mont Orford,” she says.

“It was already popular with pedestrians, particularly the Abbey circuit, which incorporates it into its routes. I believe it will become even more popular with pedestrians and cyclists thanks to our new, safer developments and our shared lane limited to 30km/h. »

The total project is estimated to cost $6.55 million, the largest ever managed by Eastman Township.

The work, which lasted almost nine months, notably allowed the installation of a sidewalk to encourage active traffic and make access to this route along the Lac d’Argent safer for pedestrians.

Among other things, traffic calming measures were taken and a rest area was set up at the intersection of Route 112.

The aqueduct’s infrastructure was modernized and fire hydrants were added. Due to delays by the railway company that owns the bridge, the vehicular and pedestrian passages under this infrastructure will be completed in the coming weeks.

On Friday we celebrated these successes with the official inauguration of the new functions.

Since 2017

The total project is estimated to cost $6.55 million, the largest ever managed by Eastman Township.

The implementation was carried out thanks to the Government of Quebec’s financial support of $429,000 under the Municipal Water Infrastructure Fund Program (FIMEAU) and the support of $7,000 from the Road Safety Fund Financial Assistance Program (PAFFSR) for the construction of speed bumps. $2,977,000 from the Recovery of Local Road Infrastructures (RIRL) to complete the work and $275,000 from the Gas Tax Program and Quebec Contribution (TECQ).

“The impact on the quality of life of Eastman citizens will be significant. I thank Mayor Nathalie Lemaire for her valuable collaboration in the development of this important work for our beautiful region,” says Gilles Bélanger, MP for Orford.

The renovation of the Chemin du Lac-d’Argent has been in the works since 2017, the mayor added.

“So this is an important milestone that has finally been achieved,” she said.

“We thank citizens for their patience and cooperation during the work and now invite them to benefit from this infrastructure worthy of 2023.”
