One of two inspirational Japanese pitchers to star in senior baseball at Drummondville will join the Quebec Capitales next season.
25-year-old Ryo Kohigashi was featured extensively on our pages in July because of his incredible story.
He and fellow American Chikara Igami had chosen Drummondville to pursue their dream of playing baseball at the professional level. They came aboard this summer in Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover and helped minor baseball players in Drummondville.
The two Japanese wanted to use amateur baseball as a springboard to advance to a higher level. We have never seen Japanese people choose this path here. Mission accomplished for Kohigashi, a diminutive left-handed pitcher who dominated senior baseball in Quebec this season.
In 54 innings, the very smiling and friendly Kohigashi struck out 106 batters and allowed 15 earned runs. No pitcher has struck out nearly as many batters.
