One Piece Odyssey is a new RPG coming to PS4, PS5, PC and Xbox

The long-running manga series One Piece is getting a new video game for its 25th anniversary, Bandai Namco announced in a live stream on Monday. One Piece Odyssey will tell a new, original story from series creator Eiichiro Oda, who will contribute new character and monster designs.

Coming sometime in 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, One Piece Odyssey is being developed by ILCA, Inc., the studio that brought players the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl remakes.

The One Piece Odyssey trailer doesn’t give much information on how the game is actually played, aside from describing it as a “new One Piece PRG”. The short gameplay clip shows series hero Luffy running around an island, climbing vines, searching treasure chests and engaging in seemingly turn-based combat.

Here is the official description of the game’s story by publisher Bandai Namco:

During their journey, the Straw Hats, led by Monkey D. Luffy, are swallowed up by a huge storm at sea. They end up in the midst of the storm on a mysterious island full of nature and get separated from each other. The crew embarks on a new adventurous journey full of wonders of wild nature, powerful enemies and strange encounters with islanders. Work together with Luffy and his crew to set sail again!

Players don’t just experience Odyssey as Luffy; Also playable are Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Frankie and Brook. A separate video features One Piece Odyssey producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki and gives a few more details.
