A fashion blogger who bought a gold evening dress with shoulder pads from online retailer Cherley was stunned when she received a yellow dress that people immediately snapped up.
Anita Mwiruki said she ordered the metallic petal embellished dress on September 10 and received it on November 30. Last week, she showed off the outfit to her 172,000 TikTok followers in a 54-second video that quickly went viral, garnering more than 650,000 views.
“At first I thought, ‘Just adjust and let off the steam. Everything will be fine. No, girl. You’ve been robbed,'” one user commented.
“Cinderella when the clock struck midnight…lol,” another commented with a laugh.
In a series of TikToks, Mwiruki explained how she came to this disappointment.
“I saw this dress and it said ‘pre-order’. When I hear and see “pre-order” I tell myself in my head that they will take the time to make this item. I’m waiting. Good things come to those who wait,” she explains.
“After a month, I sent an email like, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ And that’s what they sent me,” Mwiruki continues, showing an email from Cherley’s support team dated October 2, which says the company appreciates their patience and that the dress’s preparation will take two to three more weeks could take.
“And I thought, ‘Wow, they are really there, working hard and tirelessly to make this dress a work of art.’ It turns out I don’t know what they’ve been doing for the past two months… I don’t know. I have so many questions,” concluded Mwiruki.
