Ontario arrested and charged in connection with attempted murder in Laval

The Laval Police Department arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with an attempted murder with a firearm that took place in the Vimont district of Laval on January 29.

On that day, a 77-year-old man was hit by multiple firearm projectiles from a moving vehicle outside the SAQ branch of the Société des alcools du Quebec on Laurentides Boulevard.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The arrested man, Carlos Pena Torrez, faces charges of attempted murder and firing a firearm, the SPL said Monday morning. The suspect, who resides in Hamilton, Ontario, was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.

The 30-year-old remains in custody after his arrest. His case will be referred back to the Quebec Court on May 10.

Finally, the SPL announced that the victim was not known to the police and that their investigations confirm the thesis of personal error.
