Four of the five people who died in a serious car crash near Toronto on Sunday were Chinese students.
This was announced by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto on Monday morning.
The Chinese Embassy in Canada and the Consulate General in Toronto attach great importance to this accident, the consulate said in a news release, saying it has been in contact with the Ontario Provincial Police.
The families of the affected foreign students were also contacted and Consul General Luo Weidong was instructed by Ambassador Cong Peiwu, who was on a business trip, to express condolences to the victims’ families, it said.
The consulate also reminded Canadian students to be mindful of road safety.
Ontario police announced Sunday that four teenagers, ages 15 to 17, traveling in a Mercedes SUV lost their lives when they collided head-on with an oncoming Ford SUV on Route 60.
The four young people were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford SUV, a 42-year-old woman, died from her injuries in hospital.
