Qatari operator successfully achieved maximum mobile quality of service during the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ by deploying PI Works’ real-time automated special event management module.
DOHA, Qatar, Feb. 21, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Ooredoo Qatar, the country’s largest mobile operator, and PI Works have successfully deployed PI Works’ automated real-time special event management (SEH) module during the fifa world 2022tm. The tournament, held from November 20th to December 18th, attracted more than 3 million people; It was the first-ever FIFA™ World Cup powered by 5G technology. This increased the complexity of network management during games and required significant improvements in network capacity.
To provide excellent mobile service on Ooredoo Qatar’s existing 5G network, real-time and automated network optimization was essential. PI Works’ EXA and SEH modules, both deployed during the event, helped organize traffic and optimize the network in real time. EXA, an AI-powered automation solution, makes this possible by automating network actions and intelligently identifying volume imbalances or interference issues.
PI Works’ real-time SEH engine was activated for all 64 FIFA World Cup™ matches in 8 stadiums. The launch shows great results, including more than 17,000 automated network actions. This has improved the user experience for over 3 million participants.
Ooredoo Qatar has been appointed as the official telecommunications operator for the Middle East and Africa region for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™, providing connectivity for participants and telecommunications services for all media rights holders. The first 48 games alone used around 533TB of mobile data and 136TB of Wi-Fi on Ooredoo Qatar’s network.
