First Lady Janja says “the only truth” is the work of Brazilian diplomacy under the leadership of President Lula
The opposition to the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated on Thursday (November 9, 2023) that Israel’s decision to authorize the departure of the group of Brazilians in the Gaza Strip was thanks to former President Jair Bolsonaro ( PL). The former head of Brazil’s executive branch met with Israeli Ambassador to Brazil Daniel Zonshine and rightwing congressmen in the Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday (November 8).
Itamaraty said on Thursday (Nov 9) that Brazilians will be on the list of those allowed to leave the region on Friday (Nov 10). The information was shared by Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen in connection with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira. There are currently 34 Brazilians waiting to cross the Palestinian border with Egypt in Rafah.
Bundestag member Carla Zambelli (PLSP) explained in her Profile on X (exTwitter) that one of the topics discussed on Wednesday (November 8) between Bolsonaro and Zonshine was the authorization of the departure of Brazilians. “Thank you, Bolsonaro,” the congresswoman said.
MP Mario Frias (PLSP) also thanked the former president and declared: “While Lula spent all his time attacking Israel, Jair Bolsonaro stood up for the Brazilians.” And he added: “Learn, Lula.”
GOVERNMENT RESPONDED
First Lady Janja Lula da Silva specified that “the only truth” is the work of Brazilian diplomacy, led by Lula, “which is committed to the liberation of Brazilians trapped in Gaza.” She said she hoped the group would “fly home” on Friday (November 10).
The President of the PT, Deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (PTPR) he said that “Bolsonarism is exploiting the war to spread fake news,” that Israel’s decision is thanks to Bolsonaro. She also called the meeting between the ambassador and the former president “absurd” and “opportunistic.” The MP explained that Lula and “Brazilian diplomacy acted courageously for the rescue.”
ISRAEL rejects invitation to Bolsonaro
This Thursday (November 9), the Israeli Embassy in Brazil denied inviting Bolsonaro to the meeting between Ambassador Daniel Zonshine and opposition congressmen in Congress. “The former president’s presence was not coordinated by the Israeli embassy,” he said in a statement.
The Israeli embassy said on social media that it had invited “parliamentarians and fair parliamentarians” and that Bolsonaro’s presence was “coincidental.” The meeting took place on November 4th (November 8th) in the Chamber of Deputies. Zonshine sat next to the former president. Footage of the October 7 Hamas attack was shown.
