ARLINGTON, Texas — Baltimore Orioles starter Kyle Bradish walked out of Monday night’s 2-0 win over the Texas Rangers in the second inning of a scoreless game after being hit in the right foot by a line drive.
Baltimore announced Bradish has an injured foot after initial X-rays at the stadium showed no fractures.
Jonah Heim lined a 2-2 change back to the hill – exit speed was recorded at 104 mph – with runners on first and second and one out. The ball caught Bradish on the outside of the foot as he completed his follow through. The ball rolled to first baseman Ryan Mountcastle, who marked the base with the runners moving up.
Manager Brandon Hyde and a team coach visited Bradish, who walked around the back of the hill. Hyde then pulled Bradish, who was able to go to the dugout. Danny Coulombe came in and knocked out Brad Miller to end the inning.
Coulombe subsequently threw a 1-0 shifter to Rangers outfielder Josh Smith in the third inning, which hit Smith in the right side of his face. Schmidt was taken to a hospital.
Bradish, 26, was making his first start to the season after going 4-7 in 23 starts as a rookie last season. His four wins all came against teams that made the playoffs – two against Houston and one each against Cleveland and St. Louis.
