No matter which film wins Best Picture at this year's Oscars, “Barbenheimer” will still be the winner. Last summer's showdown in theaters between Christopher Nolan's historical drama about the genius behind the atomic bomb and Greta Gerwig's blockbuster comedy about the power of united women on neon roller skates was something worth remembering. In the end, Barbie made more money, but Oppenheimer will soon have a chance to take home the glory at the 96th Academy Awards.
Whether you're looking to win the pool at your office or are just curious to see some of the best films of 2023, there's still time this week to check out the list of all the major nominees before the Oscars air next Sunday March 10th. Although a large proportion of films, such as “Poor Things” and “The Zone of Interest”, are still only available in cinemas, some of the competitors are already available on some platform for viewing at home.
Our compilation takes into account the subscription streaming services these films can be found on. If this option is not available, we will also consider digital rental or purchase alternatives. However, keep in mind that due to the current fragmentation of streaming, it will be quite expensive if you want to watch them all.
Here you can see the 2024 Oscar nominees for best film.
Note: We decided to leave the names of the nominated films in their original titles to avoid confusion.
Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer is the nominee for the most awards with a total of 13 nominations, including Nolan for director and Cillian Murphy for lead actor. The historical drama focuses on the development of nuclear weapons in the New Mexico desert during World War II. At three hours long, Oppenheimer is surprisingly not the longest film nominated for Best Picture (that honor goes to Killers of the Flower Moon), but it is the one most likely to take home at least one statuette.
