He continues: “But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie film without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two main people behind this historic and globally acclaimed film.”

Moviegoers from around the world commented on Robbie's absence from the Best Actress category. On the other side of the cameras, Gerwig was also rejected in the Best Director category, even though Barbie was competing for the top prize for Best Feature. There were parallels on social media with the film's plot and the Oscar nominations.

“Without his talent, courage and genius, recognition would not be possible for anyone in film. To say I’m disappointed they weren’t nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” says Gosling.

He turns back to balancing the work on the set and finally congratulates America Ferreira for the Best Supporting Actress nomination: “Against all odds, with nothing more than a pair of soulless, scantily clad and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, broke our hearts, promoted culture and made history.” Their work should be recognized alongside the other very deserving nominees. “Still, I’m thrilled for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this film so groundbreaking.”

Bringing the Mattel doll to a liveaction film for the first time, Barbie stars Margot Robbie in the title role and Ryan Gosling as Ken, as well as an allstar cast Simu LiuFerrera, Kate McKinnon, Ncuti Gatwa, Will Ferrell and more.
