It’s settled: the most famous folk festival in the world – the “Wiesn” in Munich – is happening this year.
Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter made his decision and answered the questions of every question: to celebrate or not to celebrate? He clearly decided to celebrate.
Measures discarded after 2 years of forced break
Oktoberfest in Munich has already been canceled twice due to the corona. The decision was taken live today at 12:30 pm during a press conference at Munich City Hall.
“Pack but! It’s time to go to Oktoberfest!”
“Come on, noble Bavarian subjects! Audience! Celebrate with uplifted hearts. This proud saeculum!”
Oktoberfest 2022 is happening! The joy is great and millions of people from all over the world are expected. Protective measures against the pandemic were largely abolished. Mayor Dieter Reiter appealed to the government and Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach. Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder spoke out in favor of Oktoberfest 2022 already in the spring.
“It’s wonderful that the Wiesn can happen again after a two-year break.”
SPD councilor Klaus Rupp summed up his joy: “It’s wonderful that the Wiesn can happen again after a two-year break. Three times in a row without Oktoberfest would have been hard to bear. We are particularly happy for the innkeepers, showmen and feeders, that they can finally get back to their jobs.” Oktoberfest has been celebrated for 200 years. Longer breaks previously only existed in times of war.
On the 17th of September there will be o’zapft at the biggest folk festival in the world. It will be celebrated until October 3.
