Ottawa shooting: resurgence of violence in the capital –

A wedding ended tragically Saturday night when a shooting broke out in Ottawa around 10:20 p.m., leaving two people dead and six injured.

“The identity of the deceased has not been released at this time. Notification of the next of kin of the two deceased men is underway. None of the victims reside in Ottawa,” the OPS said in a news release.

There are currently no arrests.

In an interview with TVA Nouvelles, Ottawa’s Orléans-Est-Cumberland city councilor Matthew Luloff said he has noticed an increase in violence in the capital.

“I am deeply disturbed by the rise in violence here in Ottawa. From what I understand, what we’ve seen recently is almost entirely gang activity. [de rue] and drugs. We must continue to support our police in combating gang activity,” he said.

“This violence is tragic and unacceptable. This is concerning for our entire community. “Police are contacting community leaders to ensure support is available to victims’ families,” the Ottawa Police Service news release said.
