Our expert's NHL bet for Thursday: Another underdog that could carry you to victory

We won our sports bet on Wednesday, stopping our small slip to two losses. In fact, Gabriel Vilardi shot more than 2.5 times against the Red Wings on Wednesday.

As mentioned on Wednesday, this type of bet on a player rather than a team's outcome, known as prop bets, is much more lucrative.

However, Thursday's pick is backed by one of my NHL betting systems called The Blowout.

According to this system, you should bet on a team that has just beaten its previous opponent by three or more goals, but only if that team is now an underdog.

Two teams are playing well

The Vancouver Canucks travel to Dallas to play the Stars. Both teams have been playing well lately.

The Stars have won three of their last four games, all three victories at home.

For the Canucks, this will be the final game of a four-game road trip. They have won six of their last seven games, most recently a 5-2 win over the Predators.

Canucks good against stars

These teams met earlier this season. The Canucks won this game 2-0 in early November.

Dallas will be looking for revenge, but the Canucks did well away from home in Dallas, posting a 4-1 record as visitors.

The Canucks' offense has managed to score at least four goals in four of the last five games, all of them victories.

The only mishap was a 2-1 loss to the Wild. Star forward Elias Pettersson led the team with 11 points in nine games in December after scoring just two points in the final six games in November.

The Stars have been equally strong on offense, scoring 18 goals in their last four games.

Watch out for the guard

So the key to the game will be knowing which goalkeeper can slow down the opposing team.

The Stars will be without starting goaltender Jake Oettinger, who remains sidelined with a lower-body injury. Scott Wedgewood is expected to start in place of Oettinger for the fourth straight game.

Wedgewood is a solid 2-0-1 with a .909 save percentage in those three appearances.

However, the Canucks have a slight advantage as starting goaltender Thatcher Demko is expected to start Thursday night.

He has won four straight starts and is 5-1 as of December. For the season, Demko is 16-7-0 with a save percentage of .921 and a goals-against average of 2.34. It was sensational!

My NFL picks on Friday

To recap: I'm going up against an away wing, the Vancouver Canucks. The odds for victory currently fluctuate between 2.25 and 2.35 depending on the bookmaker.

I wouldn't bet my whole house on it, but I think we're getting good value for money here.

Oh, and my NFL picks are ready for Week 16 and I can't wait to share them with you on Friday!
