Many Outlook users have been seeing a massive flow of spam in their mailbox for several hours.
Fake sweepstakes emails, package delivery, or doctor’s appointments: If you’ve had this anthology of messages in your Outlook inbox, it’s normal, or almost normal.
In fact, Microsoft’s mail service has been down worldwide for several hours, preventing the redirection of spam messages to users’ junk mail. All emails ended up in the main inbox.
Affected many internet users
Many users of the service expressed their incomprehension in view of this flood of spam on Twitter. Not only can these emails be annoying, they can also be dangerous as they are associated with phishing attempts and scams.
However, Microsoft seems to have fixed the issue according to its service activity page without providing any further information on the reasons for this outage.
“We have identified the source of the problem and have taken steps to resolve it. We will continue monitoring to ensure the issue continues to be mitigated,” the company said. Several Microsoft services, including Outlook, had already collapsed at the end of January after a network configuration problem.
