“The Personal Crimes Unit continued the investigation after the arrest with a view to charging him with manslaughter. This is what we can prove,” said prosecutor Jennifer Lepage earlier this week after Danic Laframboise’s official appearance at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse.
The 40-year-old faces a new charge of manslaughter against his mother, Louise Bergeron.
Polite, quiet, thin and wearing a plain white sweater, Laframboise pleaded not guilty via video conference.
On the floor
Last February, Deux-Montagnes police officers discovered the sixty-year-old's remains in the low-rent apartments (HLM) on Avenue Basile-Routhier in Pointe-Calumet in the Laurentians.
She was lying on the floor of her apartment, wrapped in a sheet in which she was supposedly hidden.
It was a friend of the victim and a local resident who reported her disappearance, residents told the Journal at the time.
Several tenants at the residence had not seen Ms. Bergeron, who had lived there for more than a year, since the beginning of the year.
His son's speech would also have aroused suspicion among the residents.
Laframboise, who had no fixed address but had allegedly been taking advantage of his mother's accommodation all along, was arrested on the spot.
He was quickly charged with contempt of a corpse and failure to comply with conditions.

Not normal
The autopsy was then eagerly awaited by authorities to bring further charges against the suspect.
“We all thought it was him. The whole time he was there we couldn't hear him [la victime]. We didn't see her. This is not normal, said Diane Malette, a resident of HLM, in response to the new accusation. It is difficult to understand and digest. You don’t have to be all there to achieve that.”
In addition, the apartment where the tragedy allegedly occurred is still empty.
Since his arrest, Laframboise has tried several times to be released.
However, he remains in custody until the end of the trial.
Laframboise is due back in court next week.
