Overwhelming Humidity: We’re Facing the Worst

Published on July 5, 2023 at 12:34 p.m.

It’s the summer of extremes. After the storms, the heatwave hits Quebec. Forecast.

Mercury is shaken

We are entering the third week of astronomical summer and we continue to move to the extremes. After several days of severe thunderstorms, oppressive heat will prevail for the next two days.

Feelings of 40 or more

Apart from Bas-Saint-Laurent, Côte-Nord and Gaspésie, Quebec will reach and even exceed the 30° mark on Wednesday. The humidity, which has caused all sorts of problems in recent days due to the initiation of thunderstorms, is slowly continuing in the province. Result: sentiments surpassing the 40 mark in both the Montreal region and the Outaouais. We will reach the 40 in the Laurentians, in Estrie, in the Capitale-Nationale, as well as in Saguenay and Abitibi. Even around Chibougamau, the feeling will likely hit 35.

The air is saturated

The body dissipates heat primarily through perspiration. When the air is laden with moisture, it cannot absorb the water vapor generated by the human body, so cooling is significantly more limited. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to avoid intense physical exertion on Wednesday and Thursday. From a feeling of 40, the discomfort becomes overwhelming.

uncomfortable nights

This feeling also lasts at night. Mercury temperatures will remain above 20°C in most areas of southern Quebec overnight Wednesday and Thursday night. The sun will elude us on Friday, but the humidity has no intention of leaving Quebec. The feeling will therefore remain quite uncomfortable. We’re talking about 40 in Estrie and more than 35 for the Montreal region, the Outaouais, the Capitale-Nationale and the Saguenay.

Moisture sticks

This will be the first time the feeling crosses the 40s mark in Quebec this summer. The average in July is 1.4 days to 40 or more. This enabled us to surpass the average for the first week of the month. From Friday, a cold front will move over Quebec and bring the humidity down slightly. But the rate will remain quite high, so the feeling will remain rather uncomfortable.
