As we enter our second free agency week, this is where the Green Bay Packers can start to make some moves.
After the initial signing frenzy is over, contract prices begin to stabilize and reach more reasonable amounts that limited teams like the Packers can handle.
Green Bay made its first such move yesterday, signing defenseman Jarran Reid to a one-year deal. Reid will give Kenny Clark a strong friend along the defensive line, although his off-field problems are definitely a concern, and signing a player suspended just over two years ago doesn’t usually make Green Bay.
The start of the free agency discount portion also opens the door for Green Bay adding a wide receiver after last week’s Davante Adams trade (I still can’t believe I typed this). Names like Julio Jones, Will Fuller or Jarvis Landry may see their prices drop in line with what the Packers can make it work. It will also reduce the risk of hoping the draft will land a certain way and the Packers will get the wide receiver they want in the first round.
Another intriguing option, if the Packers can make the money work, would be Tyranne Mathieu. Imagine a Jare Alexander/Rasool Douglas/Eric Stokes corner band with Darnell Savage/Mathieu safe. Green Bay would have the best minor player in the league. The money will be hard to figure out, but the possibility is tantalizing.
We survived the initial hype. Now Green Bay can have some fun.
Packers step up inside defense by signing seasoned defenseman Jarran Reed – PackersNews.com
Reed has been very good against running, but lately his pass rushing ability has waned. However, Green Bay will be defending deep with Clarke, Dean Lowry and T.J. Slayton in the lineup. It’s possible we can cut DL off the list of potential picks early in the draft.
Packers Free Agent Review 2022 – Latest News – Packers.com
Expansions and restructurings have been the highlight of the year for Packers (along with one very large deal) and there is still a lot of work to be done. The expansion for Alexander seems like the next logical step along with the addition of a veteran receiver.

Sometimes events make too much sense to happen. Chefs in Green Bay test a lot: fast, versatile and stable hands. I bet Green Bay will be able to get it at a relatively good price through an exchange.
