The Green Bay Packers will add an experienced pass rusher to the defensive line in free agent mode.
The Packers signed defenseman Jarran Reed, who was visiting Green Bay on Tuesday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Reid, now 29, was drafted in the second round by the Seattle Seahawks in 2016. He spent five seasons with the Seahawks, hitting 22 sacks and 58 quarterback hits in 72 games. He played last season with the Kansas City Chiefs and hit 2.5 sacks and 12 quarterbacks in 17 games.
Reid has four career seasons with at least 20 pressings, according to Pro Football Focus. In 2018, he hit a career-high 10.5 sacks and 50 presses as an inside rusher.
Reed, 6-3 and 306 pounds, will team up with Kenny Clarke and Dean Lowry to give the Packers a trio of inside destroyers. Expect Reed to be a jack of all trades. He has been on the field for at least 60 percent of the snaps in each of his last five seasons.
In 2019, Reid was suspended for six games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy in connection with the 2017 incident.
General manager Brian Gutekunst had the money to jump into free agency after trading All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams. After the trade, the Packers signed defenseman Rasool Douglas, tight end Robert Tonian, and now Reid.
