American Airlines flight diverted to Raleigh-Durham airport due to disruptive passenger

(CNN) American Airlines Flight 3444 was diverted to Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Wednesday because of a disruptive passenger, the North Carolina Airport said.

“Around 3:41 p.m. Flight AA 3444, departing from Jacksonville for Washington, DC, was diverted to RDU because of a disruptive passenger,” the airport said in a statement. “After landing, the plane was directed to gate C9 where police boarded the plane and took the suspect into custody.”

The Federal Aviation Administration said, “The Embraer E170 flew from Jacksonville International Airport in Florida to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.”

The airline said in a statement that the diversion was “due to safety concerns from a recalcitrant customer.”

According to the airport, the plane has been cleared to continue its flight to Washington, DC and RDU has returned to normal operations.

The FAA said it will investigate the incident.

The FBI said its Charlotte, North Carolina office is investigating and “will be consulting with the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina to determine whether charges will be filed.”

According to FAA statistics, there were more than 2,300 reports of unruly passenger behavior last year. Of these, 80 cases were referred to the FBI for criminal review.

“The Flash” is set to sweep through CinemaCon 2023, where Warner Bros. Pictures will screen the superhero blockbuster at the cinema owners’ annual convention in April, multiple sources told Variety.

Showing the film in this capacity is another mark for Warner Bros.’ passionate support for the project, which has saddled with controversy over the problems surrounding star Ezra Miller. It’s the first full screening of The Flash, which hits theaters June 16.

CinemaCon takes place in Las Vegas from April 24th to 27th. Big studios typically bring sizzle-reels, first-look trailers, and celebrity trots to the annual gathering, which serves to get exhibitors excited about the films they’ll be bringing to their shows’ screens in the coming year.

Screening of a finished film usually goes beyond the bounds of this crowd, which is packed with cineplex honchos and theater executives looking to mingle with Hollywood insiders. Last year, Paramount dedicated its hour-long presentation to the first full screening of Tom Cruise’s blockbuster sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, which played like gangbusters in cinema owners’ rooms before becoming a box-office sensation.

Warner Bros. is still expected to make a formal presentation in the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, allowing The Flash to play late afternoon April 25 after the studio announced its upcoming film slate.

Warner Bros. did not immediately respond to Variety’s request for comment.

The Flash is a remnant of a former DC Films regime, but internal reception is apparently so strong that it has the full support of new studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. Gunn recently dubbed the film “one of the greatest superhero movies ever made,” noting that Miller’s path forward as the Scarlet Speedster would be based solely on her recovery from ongoing emotional issues.

“Ezra is fully committed to her recovery,” Safran said at the time. “And we fully support this journey that they are on right now.”

In recent years, Miller has exhibited troubling behavior that has led to legal troubles and allegations of assault and abuse. In mid-January, the actor pleaded guilty to unlawful trespassing in a Vermont burglary count. They face a one-year suspended sentence and a $500 fine. In addition to the Vermont incident, Miller was caught on camera engaging in aggression against Hawaii police and appeared to a fan at a bar in Iceland in 2020.

Miller, who identifies as non-binary and uses she/them pronouns, has self-described mental health issues and has addressed ongoing concerns about her behavior.

“Having recently gone through a period of intense crisis, I now understand that I suffer from complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller said in the summer. “I would like to apologize to anyone I have alarmed and upset with my behavior in the past. I am committed to doing the work necessary to return me to a healthy, safe and productive phase in my life.”

Andy Muschietti directed The Flash, which also stars Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton (both returning as their respective Batmans), Kiersey Clemmons and Michael Shannon.

Noah Song allowed to sit out naval service, expected to report Thursday at Phillies

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Right-handed pitcher Noah Song has transitioned his service with the Navy from active duty to selective reserves and will report to the Phillies spring training camp on Thursday, the team announced Wednesday.

The 25-year-old song was selected by the Phillies from the Red Sox in the Major League Rule 5 draft in December. Since he attended the US Naval Academy and graduated in 2019, he had to serve in the Navy for five years. Song applied to the Navy for a waiver in 2019 to postpone his active duty until after his unresolved baseball career and applied for another waiver in 2022.

Because Song is on the Major League Baseball military roster, he will not be included on the 40-man roster until Opening Day. If he pulls the team out of spring practice, Song will be included in the Phillies’ 26-man roster. If he doesn’t make the team, he’ll be traded or waived. Song can be placed on the injured list, the bereaved list, or the paternity list, but he cannot be elected.

Song was selected by the Red Sox in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB draft. Before attending flight school, he had a 1.06 ERA with 19 strikeouts over seven starts and 17 innings with the Red Sox’s Low-A partner, the Lowell Spinners, in 2019.

During his four-year collegiate career with the Naval Academy, he had a 2.37 ERA in 58 games, with 428 strikeouts in 334⅓ innings. He threw 14 complete games, nine of them shutouts. Athletic and tall (6-foot-4), he throws with a plus slider in the 96-99 mph range. He also throws a fastball, a changeup, and a curveball.

Choosing Song wasn’t without risk. He hasn’t pitched professionally since 2019. The Phillies will get a better sense of where he stands physically on Thursday and over the next few weeks of camp.

Additional bases

  • Phillies manager Rob Thomson said he will likely make a decision in the next few days about whether assist Gregory Soto will play for the Dominican Republic at the World Baseball Classic. Soto has not yet reported to the camp because of visa problems. “Eventually he has to play a few games before he goes to the WBC or you’re putting him at risk,” Thomson said. He added that in this case, because he didn’t play a game, the team will get some input on his WBC attendance.

  • The preliminary plan calls for pitcher Andrew Painter to make his first appearance at spring training mid-next week.

  • Michael Plassmeyer starts Saturday’s split-squad game against the Tigers in Lakeland, Fla. and Nick Nelson starts at home against the Yankees. The Phillies will be looking to get two innings out of Plassmeyer.

West Bank: UN chief calls for ‘stop’ of ‘illegal’ Israeli settlements

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday called for a “stop” to “illegal” Israeli colonization in the occupied Palestinian territories and condemned “terrorism” amid renewed violence in the West Bank.

“Each new settlement is another obstacle on the way to peace. All settlement activities are illegal under international law and must be stopped. At the same time, inciting violence is a dead end. Nothing justifies terrorism (which) must be rejected by all,” Antonio Guterres told the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.

A deadly raid in Nablus

Established in 1975, this committee met at the United Nations headquarters in New York when 10 Palestinians, including a 16-year-old boy, were killed during an Israeli military attack in Nablus and more than 80 others were injured by bullets and deadly clashes in the north of the occupied West Bank , according to the Palestinian Authority.

This is the deadliest attack on the West Bank since at least 2005, linked to that on January 26 in Jenin, also in the northern West Bank, which killed 10 Palestinians, including militants and a woman in her 60s.

Guterres judged that the situation in the occupied Palestinian territory was “the most volatile in years” with “tensions at their highest” in the context of a “stalled” Israeli-Palestinian “peace process.”

Media concentration affects democracy says Atilio Boron

Walter Ferguson, the King of Calypso, Honorary Citizen of Costa Rica

The 46 deputies present voted unanimously in favor of the proposal of the Fraction of the Frente Amplio (FA) to pay this honor to Ferguson, 104 years old, born on May 7, 1919 in Guabito, Panama, who lived in Cahuita, in the Caribbean province Limón since he was very young.

The decision to give him honorary citizenship and not Benemérito de la Patria corresponds to the fact that Mr. Gavitt, as the King of Costa Rica Calipso is known, is alive and the second recognition is only for deceased persons.

Author of around 150 calypso’s, the most famous of which are One Pant Man, Callalloo, Black Man Food, Cabin in the Water, Cahuita is a Beautiful Place and GOOD, Ferguson has previously been honored and declared National Calypso Day on May 7th his birth.

FA MP Ariel Robles confirmed that this Legislative Assembly honor settles a historic debt the country owes to this renowned musician.

Ferguson is, will, and always will be in Costa Rican history, no matter where he was born, and he’s already an honorary citizen for all of Costa Rica, Robles said, recalling his centenary in 2019, 23 musicians and artists from 16 Latin American countries, the United States, Ireland and Africa recorded an album of some of his works.

This production is titled 100 Years of Calypso Walter Ferguson, an album directed by Costa Rican musician and researcher Manuel Monestel.

“This album is unprecedented in the history of national music, as no other composer of Costa Rican popular music has been recognized, appreciated and performed by so many renowned musicians worldwide,” Robles said.

For his part, leader of the Progressive Liberal Party parliamentary group, Eli Feinzaig, stated that Ferguson’s legacy is “one of Costa Rica’s greatest cultural treasures and I am extremely honored to be here to vote for its recognition”.

The Toyota Sequoia competes in its class against the GMC Yukon, Jeep Wagoneer and Nissan Armada.

GMC Yukon

Price: from $71,397

The Yukon, revived two years ago, is consolidating its gains. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, the 5.3-liter V8 that powers it reduces – slightly – its fuel consumption. Not enough to compete with the Sequoia though. On the other hand, the Yukon is more comfortable thanks to the addition of fully independent rear suspension. The AT4 and Denali versions perform even better as both benefit from the active damping system (Magnetic Ride) which also improves the behavior of this large commercial vehicle. Technically, GMC is expanding its lead by offering a semi-autonomous driving device (Super Cruise) this year.

Jeep Wagoneer

Price: from $83,290

The Jeep Wagoneer

After a very long eclipse, the Wagoneer is back in action at Jeep. Sharing the same architecture as the RAM 1500, this model introduces a brand new engine this year. Promising, this supercharged six-cylinder has yet to prove its reliability. However, from an ecological point of view, this engine is a much better choice than the two V8s also listed in the catalogue. Compared to the Sequoia, this Jeep is beefier (towing capacity), more rewarding, quieter… and more expensive too.

Nissan armada

Price: from $70,498

The Nissan Armada

The Armada is the oldest utility in its class today. Its commissioning dates back to 2010. It is therefore not surprising that the pump can hardly compete with its younger, more modern and, above all, more economical competitors. The 5.6-liter V8 installed under its hood consumes a lot, but shows a lot of flexibility and discretion. On the other hand, the Armada hardly hides its age, despite the sometimes opulent skins. No matter, compared to the Sequoia, the Nissan wants to be more reassuring when braking, less out of breath when towing a heavy load and, above all, cheaper to buy.

Recent Doomsday Glacier Study Concerns Scientists Multiverso Noticias

Recent ‘Doomsday Glacier’ Study Concerns Scientists Multiverso Notícias

The 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27) took place from 6 to 18 November 2022. Measures to reduce global pollution and reverse global warming will be discussed in all editions of the conference.

The latter is a worldwide event that raises the planet’s average temperature annually. In this way, it generates multiple environmental disasters that threaten the survival of the human species.

One of the effects of global warming is the melting of the polar ice caps, causing sea levels to rise exponentially and endangering thousands of lives on the world’s coasts.

Sea level rise can lead to the disappearance of several islands and pose a great risk to coastal cities which, like islands, can disappear completely from the map.

While it may seem like an exaggeration to think that islands and cities will suffer from flooding, it is a reality and a concern for many scientists. Mainly by those studying the glacier ThwaitesKnown by many as the “Doomsday Glacier”.

State of the ‘Doomsday Glacier’

For those unfamiliar, Thwaites Glacier is located in West Antarctica and is the size of the state of São Paulo. For many years, scientists have monitored the glacier’s melting progress given the destructive force that its melting can cause.

According to the latest data, made available in two surveys in the virtual journal Nature, the glacier is now responsible for 4% of annual sea level rise. When it separates completely from the Antarctic continent, it will increase Sea level to 64cm.

Though it may seem little, remember that this means more than half a meter of water, enough to inundate several islands around the world as well as many coastal cities.

According to research on the glacier, melting is between 2m and 5m per year, which has been shown to be lower than in recent decades, possibly due to United Nations (UN) efforts to slow global warming. . .

Although melting has been slightly delayed, it has not stopped and is occurring at fragile parts of the glacier, which could still cause the detachment.

According to a note from Professor Britney Schmidt, one of the people in charge of the research:

“This new way of looking at glaciers allows us to understand that it’s not just about how much meltwater takes place, but also how and where it happens.

We see crevasses and probably terraces in warming glaciers like Thwaites. Warm water seeps into the crevasses, helping to erode the glacier at its weakest points.”
