According to CBS News, the artwork was discovered by a woman in 2017 amid a stack of frames at a Savers store in Manchester. What she didn’t know, however, was that she had accidentally stumbled upon a painting by Needham-born artist NC Wyeth.

The painting, titled Ramona, is one of four commissioned by Little, Brown and Co. for the 1939 edition of Helen Hunt Jackson’s novel Ramona. Auction house Bonhams took to Instagram to post about this painting. They wrote: “This long-lost NC Wyeth will be auctioned at Bonhams Skinner on September 19th.⁠ The painting was purchased for $4 at a thrift store in 2017 and was later discovered to be by the famous American artist.”
