Palestine is above all an Arab affair, says Lebanon

Speaking at the Arab-Islamic Summit here, Mikati stressed the centrality of the cause of Palestine, the land and the people in the face of the scenario of systematic destruction.

In his speech to 57 regional leaders, the chief of staff noted that words of condemnation are disappearing in the face of Israel’s violation of international law and human dignity.

By the way, the Lebanese leader called for solidarity and joint action to save Gaza and Palestine, while rejecting the project of expanding and supplanting Israeli politics.

“We must work together to reach an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, open the border crossings and bring aid to the brothers in Gaza, and embark on a serious and effective political path towards a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to our central problem,” he said.

In this sense, he stressed that the two-state solution is the best way forward and aims to build a better future for all, building on the Arab Peace Initiative launched in Beirut in 2002.

Regarding the events in southern Lebanon, Mikati pointed out that they were the result of Tel Aviv’s intensification of attacks on national sovereignty and the ongoing and persistent violation of International Resolution 1701.

He also expressed his public calls for calm and restraint on the southern border and warned against an expansion of the destructive war in Gaza to southern Lebanon and from there to the region.

“Our choice in Lebanon has been and remains peace, based on truth and justice, international law and decisions on legitimacy,” he commented.

On this issue, he reiterated that Lebanon will not accept attacks on its sovereignty, national dignity, territorial integrity and its civilian population, especially children and women.

Faced with this scenario, he reiterated his commitment to UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and stressed the need to pressure Tel Aviv to end its provocations and aggression against the cedar nation.

In this regard, the Prime Minister stated that all Lebanese, without exception, support Gaza and Palestine and “hope that all Arabs will find their embrace and strength to prevent a collapse.”
