PANAMA CITY, 22nd May (RHC) – Panama’s Movement Another Way (MOCA) is electing its first national board this Sunday ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

The Constituent Assembly will be a further step for this party to enter the race for the Palacio de las Garzas in formation in two years’ time, out of the four existing on the Isthmus, the organizers stressed.

Around 300 delegates will decide the key authorities between two sides, one of which will be headed by Ricardo Lombana; and the other by Giovanna Graziadei.

In the afternoon, the official results of the vote will be announced so that the more than 46,000 registered supporters and the media can find out about the new direction of MOCA and its projects for the next five years.

For the President of the Electoral Committee, Jorge Conte, the organic and voluntary nature of the registrants filled the process with satisfaction and optimism for what is to come.

He also highlighted the commitment, respect and enthusiasm shown by hundreds of activists in all provinces in the internal phase, which, unlike what usually happens in other groups, is characterized by the absence of scandals and political patronage excellent.

Once Congress has been held, the Electoral Tribunal (TE) has up to 30 days to recognize MOCA as a legally constituted party and will then authorize the reopening of its registration books.

Eight political organizations are recognized in Panama, including the ruling Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) with the largest number of registered members (693,629), followed by Cambio Democrático (290,217).

They also include the Nationalist Republican Liberal Movement (Molirena), the Popular Party, Panameñista, Alianza, País and Realizing Goals.

Other organizations in formation include the Broad Front for Democracy (FAD), the Revolutionary Torrijista Party and Relevo, according to statistics from the highest electoral body. (Source: Latin Press)
