Kelly was just 15 when her leg was amputated after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called synovial sarcoma.

“I remember telling the doctors I would rather die than have my leg amputated,” she previously told the Daily Mail Australia.

But after researching non-amputation survival rates, Kelly made the difficult decision to have her leg removed.

“I remember meeting other amputees afterward, which was tremendously helpful — as was the rehabilitation,” she said.

“Talking to other people and working with my mentor has also been invaluable – it has helped me get back into the sport.”

After her right leg was amputated, Kelly won two Paralympic medals, climbed Kilimanjaro and performed on Dancing with the Stars.
