In the US state of Georgia, a couple who starved their child was arrested. The 10-year-old boy weighed 16 kilograms when he was picked up.

The southeastern US couple was accused of child abuse. It is said that they starved their ten-year-old son to death. The boy apparently managed to escape from home: according to a New York Post report, he was looking for a grocery store to finally get something between his teeth.

Police in the small town of Griffin arrested Tyler and Krista Schindley after their neighbors found the couple’s emaciated son lost in the street on Friday. The child begged the officers “please don’t let him come back,” the neighbor said.

The boy deliberately starved himself and weighed just over 16 kilos when he was rescued. That’s about the weight of an average four-year-old. “This child starved to death – it’s tragic,” Griffin District Attorney Marie Broder told a news conference on Tuesday.

The parents are accused of locking the child in her room and leaving her home alone for long periods “and on several occasions without access to light, food, clothing or interaction and/or help from adults,” according to documents scary lawsuits.
