The 26-year-old who stabbed a German tourist and injured two other people in Paris claimed responsibility for the Islamic State (IS) jihadist militia in a video. The perpetrator had contact with other jihadist-motivated attackers, the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Paris reported yesterday.
He has already been in prison for four years for preparing an attack and has psychological problems. French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin had already announced that the victim was a German tourist. The alleged killer was arrested.
According to police sources, the attacker was a Frenchman born in France with mental health problems. He stated that he could not stand the fact that Muslims were being killed around the world.
The crime occurred in the 15th arrondissement, close to the Eiffel Tower. The minister advised people to avoid the area close to Quai de Grenelle. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office has now taken over the investigation.
