On Friday December 23, shots were fired in central Paris, Rue d’Enghien, killing two people. There are four injured, two of them in critical condition. A police source said they had arrested a 69-year-old man without giving further details. The shooting, which took place in the 10th arrondissement, took place near the Kurdish cultural center Ahmet-Kaya at 16 rue d’Enghien. Le Parisien confirms that a man in his 70s shot several people. The arrested man is a Frenchman, retired from the French Railways (SNCF), a former driver of the transport company. The weapon used by the 69-year-old was secured by the agents.
Seven to eight shots in the street, total panic, we were locked up, said a vendor from a nearby building.
Police have launched investigations into murder, manslaughter and aggravated violence. The reasons and dynamics of the shooting are not yet clear. On Twitter, the prefecture urges citizens to avoid the urban area so as not to hinder the intervention of rescue workers.
