The British king is retracing his visit to France. He and French President Macron are trying to calm tensions between the two countries.
Vienna/Paris. The king and the president drove a Citroën in front. In the second car came their wives, the Queen and the First Lady. The two heads of state were briefly seen along the Champs-Elysées, decorated with blue, white and red flags, waving from the open car. The first official point of the state visit took place at the Arc de Triomphe, in Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron received British King Charles III. right next to the Parisian landmark. As usual during state visits to France, the two stopped at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to honor those killed in the two world wars. Then French and British aerobatic pilots thundered down the closed road and ended the ceremony in blue, white and red.
