The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS, nationalist right), President Aleksandar Vucic's formation, won the December 17 parliamentary and local elections, the legitimacy of which is disputed by the opposition, with 46.75% of the vote at the national level, according to the full results , which the electoral commission published on Wednesday.

According to the presidential party's forecasts, this result will ensure it an absolute majority of seats in parliament. The largest opposition coalition, Serbia Against Violence (SPN), received 23.66% of the vote.

The full results were published on the electoral commission's website, following repeated voting in around thirty polling stations – mainly in rural areas – and the final counting of ballot papers from the 8,723 polling stations in the country, the commission said on its website.

A controversial vote

The commission has not yet produced its own seat forecast, but the Serbian president stated on December 30 that his party, in power since 2012, should have an absolute majority at the national level, namely 129 (or even 130) seats, with the 250-seat National Assembly .

The vote was contested from day one by the opposition, which denounced “fraud,” and was followed by almost daily demonstrations in front of the Electoral Commission headquarters and blockades on the streets of Belgrade.

The SPN called on the European Union to launch an independent international investigation to verify its claims of “irregularities”.
