Parts of a woman’s body were found today in the ButtesChaumont park, a garden in the northeast of the French capital. The remains of the victim were discovered by officers at the site, one of the busiest in the city.
Body parts found in a plastic bag match part of the victim’s hip, according to sources connected to the investigation. Police said it was impossible for the time being to know the time of the woman’s death.
A murder investigation was launched and the park closed to the public in the afternoon to allow forensic teams to proceed. Sniffer dogs are used in the operation.
The gruesome discovery took place in the same area of town where the body of Lola, a 12yearold girl, was found in a suitcase in October last year. The teenage girl who disappeared on her way back from school was tortured before being murdered in a crime that shocked the country.
Emily in Paris
Far from the more touristy areas of the capital, the ButtesChamont park is one of the most popular in Paris. It was founded in 1867 under the regime of Napoleon III. and is located in one of the neighborhoods that have undergone a gentrification process in recent years, attracting a young and increasingly wealthy population, charmed by its narrow streets and village houses.
The hills of ButtesChamont overlooking SacréCoeur, nicknamed the “hills of fashion” by some because of the lively picnics organized in summer, attract people from all over the city all year round, in addition to local residents who practice sports on site, which features a lake, waterfalls and even an artificial cave that stretches over 25 hectares.
The park has become so famous in recent years that it was even used as a backdrop for Netflix series Emily in Paris Season 3, in a scene where the main character is having a picnic with her English boyfriend.
