At high altitude, the recent heat wave is a distant memory. Heavy rainfall over the last few days led to the Alpine passes Furka, Susten, Grimsel and Nufenen being closed due to snow on Monday. The Gotthard Pass is also closed from 4 p.m.

The snow line, which has fallen below 2000 meters, has an impact on traffic, said the Uri construction management in a statement. Due to the snow-covered roads, the Furka and Susten passes had to be temporarily closed on the Uranus side up to the Sustenbrüggli.
The Grimsel and Nufenen passes will also be closed to all vehicles from Monday afternoon, according to the TCS Switzerland website. The Sempione is covered with snow but is only closed to heavy vehicles with trailers or semi-trailers.
For its part, the Italian Anas has announced the closure of the Spluga Pass due to a landslide on the Swiss side.
MeteoSwiss is currently reporting a level 4 storm risk in the cantons of Obwalden, Schwyz, Uri and Graubünden.
The start of the week remains a cloudy, wet and cool – indeed quite an autumnal – affair. This also includes #Snow in the mountains. The snow line drops to around 2000 meters today https://t.co/2HbU97BwMO (rv) pic.twitter.com/xwcIQeG0Mj

In terms of profitability, however, it should be noted that circulation has been restored, but only for descending traffic, in the lower to middle part of Val Malvaglia. However, the Valle Pontirone road remains closed. The methods and timing of recovery will be evaluated over the next few hours, the municipality of Biasca announces. The carriageway “is blocked in several places both upstream and downstream of the village of Pontirone” and there is a risk of falling stones along the entire road.
Landslides and flooding on Lake Como, road closed
After the heavy and persistent rains of the last few hours, landslides and flooding occurred in Blevio on Lake Como. The Lariana provincial road, a former state road that connects Como to Bellagio, has been closed to allow firefighters to deploy. Stones and debris were carried downstream by the streams flowing down from the mountain. No injuries are reported.
