Patricia Heaton has blasted ‘stupid’ Disney bosses for replacing Tim Allen with Chris Evans in new Toy Story spin-off Lightyear.

The 64-year-old actress took to Twitter on Tuesday defending her 69-year-old girlfriend, who voiced Buzz in the four original Pixar films between 1995 and 2019.

She claimed they made a “huge mistake” in recasting their pal, going as far as to say they “completely castrated this iconic, beloved character.”

“Why remove the one element that makes us want to see #stupidHollywooddecisions.”

For millions of film fans, Tim will always be associated with Buzz Lightyear, the not-too-bright astronaut wannabe he voiced in the 1995 Pixar animated blockbuster.

But Captain America star Chris admitted he was a little intimidated when he took on the role of voicing Buzz for Lightyear.

According to The Daily Telegraph, he said: “I’m doing Tim and I don’t care.

“It makes you so nervous to hear yourself out loud – it almost feels wrong. It’s like trying to say, “Bond, James Bond,” and you’re like, “No, no, no — that’s for someone else.”

Chris’ character in the original image isn’t quite the fool played by Tim Allen.

In Toy Story, Buzz was just a toy pretending to be an astronaut.

Lightyear, Chris explained, is said to be the film the toy is based on.

In the new film’s plot, Buzz is a space ranger stranded on a hostile planet trying to find his way home. The character is a bit smarter than the toy Buzz.

‘[Tim Allen] Buzz Lightyear to me too – I grew up watching those movies,” he said.

“Well, you’ll certainly want to use it as a template… And he did such a good job that I’d be a fool not to accept some of the decisions. But at the same time you have to make a kind of fresh track in the snow.”

Evans also recently re-explained the film’s plot, almost two years after a tweet he originally posted was mocked by fans.

He wrote at the time: “And just to be clear, this isn’t Buzz Lightyear the toy. This is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear the toy is based on.”
