Patrícia Poeta took advantage of the aftermath of the death of Jessica Vitória Canedo, a young woman who took her own life after false conversations with Whindersson Nunes were spread through gossip profiles, to vent at this Thursday's meeting (28). The presenter explained that she had already suffered from fake news and pleaded for people to have respect for others. “The Internet is no man’s land,” he lamented.
After revealing details of the case that came into the spotlight last week, the head of the Globo morning show spoke about the severity of the consequences of fake news. “There must be strict laws about things like this,” she began.
“Today the Internet is no man’s land. People post whatever they want on a fake profile, wherever it may be, saying something about a particular person, often symbolically speaking to end their life. Destroy them, make them sad. And nothing happens,” he complained.
Patrícia stressed that it is difficult and painful to spread a lie about you on the Internet and urged victims to realize that their lives are more important than the rumors. “It is a topic that touched me very much. I became a victim of fake news in 2023, which is very painful. We will not do that to ourselves under any circumstances,” he emphasized.
Although Patrícia did not elaborate on what false news was spread about her throughout the year, she suffered from rumors of behindthescenes fights with Manoel Soares, former cohost of Encontro. In 2023, the two starred in several awkward moments on the show, leading the public to believe that there might be a feud between them.
“You have to find the strength that you often don’t realize you have in order to move forward. You, who are going through it, remember this: your daily actions, your principles, your life are much more important than all of this,” the communicator added.
However, the presenter took the opportunity to take a swipe at those who spread the news over the internet. “Well, you who spread this fake news have a sense of responsibility within you. This is a crime. They at least make someone sad and help depress someone. As we noted there, you do that a lot. help kill someone,” he warned.
“I say more this is for those who share, because when you share, you also commit this crime. Well, whoever plants it, whoever invents it, whoever starts spreading hate, maybe you don't know the word love, but you try to respect the other. At least respect each other,” criticized Patrícia.
Finally, the journalist emphasized that the end of the year season can contribute to positive changes and reflections. “It could be a good start for you in 2024. It's a kind of outlet here with you, because that's not something that's done to people. This is not done. They hurt people,” he concluded.
