Forward and free agent Patrick Kane is not expected to sign a new contract until the start of the 2023-2024 season.
This was announced by his agent Pat Brisson in an interview with the ESPN network on Thursday.

The 34-year-old veteran developed hip loss on June 1 and may not be active for four to six months.
“First we have to make sure he’s 100% fit and feeling good,” said Brisson. Then we can decide where to go. There will be many organizations that will do well, others badly and there will be teams that will be hit by injuries.
So it was only in December, after a careful analysis of the available forces, that he was able to decide where he would go. The primary goal would be to add a fourth Stanley Cup to his resume.
A general manager who spoke to US media even believes some teams would be willing to hire Kane now and pay for his fitness, but there will be a lack of salary places for the most part.
“They could offer me a contract for a year or two now, for $7 million a season, I don’t even know if I’d care because that’s not what he needs,” Brisson explained. We’ll see how he feels in due course.”
“We will decide where to go. I don’t think many teams would turn down our offer,” the influential agent added confidently.
Drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks as the first pick at the 2007 amateur auction, Kane retired on February 28 with the Illinois club. He was traded to the New York Rangers, which also included the Arizona Coyotes.
In 73 games with the Hawks and the Blueshirts, the winger scored 21 goals and provided 36 assists for 57 points. This is his lowest points tally in his career.
In the playoffs, Kane had six points (1-5) in Rangers’ seven games. The Big Apple Club was eliminated in the first round by the New Jersey Devils.
