Patrick Mahomes refused to discuss his father's recent arrest for drunk driving on opening night of the Super Bowl, instead promising to “leave it all in the family.”

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback's father, 53, was arrested Saturday night in Texas by the Tyler Police Department on at least his third DWI.

Mahomes Sr. was being held in the Smith County Jail on a $10,000 bond. The 6-foot-2 former professional baseball pitcher slept in jail overnight and was released on bail on Sunday.

Six days before he faces the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, Mahomes Jr. remained tight-lipped about his father's arrest and refused to go into details.

“I can't go into it too much, but I mean he's fine in any situation,” the soccer star said.

Bond documents have confirmed that Mahomes Sr. can travel to Las Vegas this weekend to watch the Chiefs – but he must remain sober and not drink alcohol while partying in the VIP box.

He is usually flanked at exciting Chiefs games by his glamorous daughter-in-law Brittany Mahomes and Travis Kelce's pop star girlfriend Taylor Swift.

Mahomes Sr. was pulled over during a traffic stop Saturday night at 8:30 p.m.

An officer noticed his white Genesis was driving too slowly while traveling west in the 1100 block of W. Gentry. Police checked his registration – which expired in September 2022.

They pulled him over, at which point the officer saw that Mahomes Sr. had an open 16-ounce Coors can in his center console.

He said he drank a few beers while watching the game at a local bar. Mahomes Sr. performed field sobriety tests and failed.

He was subsequently arrested and sent to prison for DWI.

The millionaire Chiefs quarterback's father's prison sentence was paid for by Ace Bail Bonds – a third-party bail bond service that people in counties across Texas can use.

According to bail documents seen by , Mahomes Sr. is allowed to travel freely despite his felony arrest – but is prohibited from drinking alcohol or taking illegal drugs as part of his plea agreement.

He also must appear at the Smith County Probation Office Monday morning to meet with an officer and receive further instructions.

Mahomes Sr. will also have to install an ignition interlock device on his car – so he cannot start the vehicle without first taking a breathalyzer test.

The quarterback's father also has to undergo random alcohol and drug tests during his bonding period. He was also reminded that he must obey the law.
