Patriots quarterback Mac Jones suffers an ankle injury on his FINAL PASS in the loss to the Ravens and will undergo an MRI on Monday when New Englands slip 1-2 for the year

The New England Patriots could run into trouble at quarterback.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Patriots sophomore quarterback Mac Jones reportedly suffered a sprained ankle in the final period of Sunday’s 37-26 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The injury came on Jones’ final pass attempt of the day, which resulted in an interception. While attempting the pass, Jones was hit by Raven’s defender Calais Campbell and it appeared that Jones’ leg was bent at an awkward angle.

Jones will have an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

After the hit, Jones was immediately seen grabbing his ankle on the ground and limping straight to the Patriots touchline.

Jones was not evaluated on the sidelines, as is often the case with injured players, but was helped directly into the dressing room.

He finished the game on 22 of 32 for 302 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions. He added five rushes for 31 yards and a touchdown.

After the game, Campbell commented on the game and took a moment to wish Jones well.

“The game is at stake, fourth quarter. They’ve made a few plays to kind of move the ball and it’s just a full-court-pass-rush mentality,” Campbell said.

“I think I was just trying to pressure him, hit him, make him uncomfortable and get him to throw an interception. And I think that was just a good football game. I hate seeing him get hurt. This is the worst part of this game. You never want to see boys get hurt. I hope he’s fine.”

Jones’ teammates also spoke to linebacker Matthew Judon in support of their injured quarterback, saying, “We don’t know what happened, we’ll see in the coming days. But I’m going with you [No.] 10. Hope he’s doing well.’

Safety and longtime team captain Devin McCourty said: “I know if he’s got something to play with, he’ll play with it. We have to see what it is and move on from there as a team. We will continue to gather around him.

Veteran QB Brian Hoyer is the Patriots’ backup and will fill in for the time Jones misses with his injury. Hoyer spent several years with the Patriots prior to this season and already appears to have the trust of his teammates.

Center and team captain David Andrews told reporters he has “tons” of faith in Hoyer. “Brian has been here for a long time. I have a lot of respect for how he comes in and works every day and prepares for how he’s going to play.
