The Patriots began building their 2023 roster Tuesday and suspended most of their 2022 practice team.
New England signed the following 11 players two days after their season-ending loss in Buffalo:
LB Terez Hall
DB Brad Hawkins
OL Hayden Howerton
DB Quandre Mosely
LB Calvin Munson
WR Tre Nixon
DL Jeremiah Pharms Jr.
DL LaBryan Ray
TE Matt Sokol
RB JJ Taylor
TE Scotty Washington
Hawkins, Mosely, Munson, Sokol, Taylor and Washington all appeared in games for the Patriots this season, with Sokol leading that group with a total of 34 snaps played. Washington was placed on injured reserve after his lonely performance and was spotted with a plaster cast on his ankle during cleaning of the dressing room on Monday.
Injuries prevented Ray from contributing as an undrafted rookie, but he could be the most intriguing of the Patriots’ future signers. The Alabama product was a standout training camp and preseason, and many predicted he would make the team’s first week list.
Five members of the Patriots P-Squad were not transferred: quarterback Garrett Gilbert, linebacker Jamie Collins, kicker Tristan Vizcaino, offense lineman Bill Murray and wide receiver Lynn Bowden.
Murray, who has been with New England since May 2020, switched from defensive tackle during training camp and has been included in the gameday list three times this season, recording three special-team snaps. Bowden, whose offensive versatility made him a notable pick in September, spent the entire season on the practice team and played 14 snaps at his lone height.
