It happens to all of us that we react with surprise when we see a familiar face from the cinema again after many years. This is the case of Patsy Pepping, the “Mexican Kim Basinger”, who established a new female profile in action films in the 80s and today plays Gloria Ruiz, the mother of Gloria Trevi in the series you are me, by ViX.

If you strain your memory and go back in time 35 years, you might remember her as the young woman who starred alongside popular idols of the action genre such as Álvaro Zermeño, Sergio Goyri, Fernando Almada, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez and Edgardo Gazcon. He also shared credits with Vicente Fernández.

Unlike other female stars of that time, Patsy was distinguished by sobriety in her image and characters. Although she was associated with Kim Basinger because of her blonde hair, skin color and body type, she did not play roles full of sensuality or eroticism. He was identified as such simply because of his physical characteristics.

Although there were also blonde actresses who stood out in popular cinema, such as Angélica Chaín, Felicia Mercado and Roxana Chávez, Patsy caught the attention of producers for her cheerful nature. The freshness of his profile was new to appeal to a young audience that was still developing hadn’t fully engaged with the titles hitting theaters; was projected as a box office draw for a rising generation.

It is true that Patsy was attracted by her beauty, but also by the women she portrayed in “El cachas de oro” (1986), “Inheritance of the Brave” (1986), “The Devil, the Saint and the Fool (1987) and “The Law of the Streets” (1989)) and My Revenge (1990) were notable for not resorting to the resource of physical representation. In her case, the costumes consisted of long dresses, jeans and leather jackets. And that speaks to what she wanted to convey: to show herself as an actress without distracting the viewer with her figure.

Another feature of her participation in the cinema was that she played noble girls who loved their partner and remained true to their values. She broke out of the mold that other stars played as heroines or criminals. It’s likely that her decision to be a good girl in the film was a way to make up for her misdeeds Soap opera villain with The years go by (1985), The secret way (1986) and Poor Miss Limantour (1987).

His career has been on the rise in film, television and music. Oh yes, her talent also expanded to include singing with the release of two albums which unfortunately did not have the expected success. However, despite this unfortunate episode, she positioned herself as one of the most complete actresses of her time. But right at the peak of his career he disappeared.

He stopped appearing on screen in the 90s. Apart from a brief participation in which she appeared in a bikini in the film Santo Enredo (1995), she did nothing else.

What happened? Nothing bad. Quite the opposite. He was dedicated to making a dream come true. Which? Become a mother and start a family. Has three sons.

In 2000 he returned to television with the soap opera “My Destiny is You”. Since then he has had an active, if irregular, career, as there are extended periods when he is not in the picture. Now that he has resurfaced with the Gloria Trevi series, Patsy reconnects with the audience she has in mind due to her time in action films and soap opera villains.

At 60, he shows that age is just a number. She is quite capable of playing evil or other characters that are anything but stereotypical for women her age.

Will the cinema reopen its doors? It would be interesting to see what the reinvention of “Mexican Kim Basinger” looks like on the big screen almost 40 years later.
